Forest and Beach announced as National Winner at the Rural Business Awards Final

We were delighted to win a National Award at the Rural Business Awards National Final which took place at Chateau Impney, Droitwich on 28th February 2019. After winning the South West regional final we then represented the South West and South Hams at the National Finals.

The Awards celebrate all types of rural businesses and Forest and Beach won in the Best Outdoor Recreation or Outdoor Pursuits business. Pete Moore Director stated ‘This is a huge achievement for our small company, I gave up a teaching job 5 years ago after 18 years in the classroom to set up FaB along with my wife Andrea who is also a teacher. For Forest and Beach to win this accolade is just unbelievable, we were really thrilled just to have been shortlisted for the awards but to have then won the South West region and go on to become the National Champion in our category is just amazing. We were by far the smallest company in our category, up against some fantastic businesses’.

Andrea Moore, Director stated ‘The National Final was a lovely evening with Jules Hudson presenter of Escape to the Country and Countryfile comparing. It was lovely to see the all the varied UK rural businesses at the finals. We were really not expecting to win at all and it was amazing when FaB was called out as the National winner. The support and well wishing on our social media channels has been huge and we can’t thank our supporters enough. We knew we were representing Devon and the South Hams and in the end we were the only winners from Devon.’

Pete added, ‘we are looking forward to the next few years as we have some exciting plans for Forest and Beach.’

Cliff fall at Hope Cove today...luckily no one was hurt. Lifeguards urge people not to set up or play at the base of cliffs due to their unstable nature. Also when walking the coast path around this amazing stretch of coastline, please stick to the path and don’t be tempted to climb over the barriers- they are there to keep you safe! #hopecovelifeboat #southwestcoastpath #hopecove

Reminder

Tomorrow 14/08/19 is RNLI Salcombe Lifeboats Open Day from 11:00 -16:00 hrs.
Always a very popular day for both adults and children alike.

Take an up-close look at the Salcombe Lifeboats, learn more about the amazing work of the volunteer crews and the equipment they use. As an added attraction this year we will have a Severn Class Lifeboat moored alongside and open to view.

Also, in attendance will be the RNLI Face 2 Face team ready to give advice and important information on the work of the RNLI and its commitment to Saving Lives at Sea.

As if that is not enough why not pay a visit to the Lifeboat Shop and Museum, learn more about the Salcombe Lifeboats 150th anniversary year. Why not pick up a copy of the ‘Salcombe and Hope Cove Lifeboat Stations’ book celebrating 150 years.
All subject to operational requirements.

On Saturday with the huge waves RNLI lifeguards at Bigbury and Sedgewell spotted a upturned kayak, the lifeguards launched their rescue boat and with no persons found, The coastguard was contacted who tasked Bigbury and Prawle Point Coastguard Rescue Team coastguard rescue teams along with Maritime and Coastguard Agency helicopter 187 to assist in the search. When no body was found the search discovered the kayak had broken from a mooring at Burgh island. A great example of emergency services working together. #Proudofourcrowd #RespectTheWater
